About us

Twyford Comets Football Club

Founded in 1972, Twyford Comets Football Club continues to provide a safe and friendly footballing environment to the local community. We field up to 20 teams most weekends playing in various local leagues, from under 7 all the way up through the junior age groups to adult football. We also cater for younger children with our Saturday morning “Mini-Comets” soccer school which meets at King George V Recreation Ground, Twyford providing a fun and excellent start to the game before moving into organised league football.

In 2006 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of our link and exchange program with RKUVC youth football club from Ulestraten, Holland. In even-numbered years our U14 squad travels to Holland for a 5-day visit, playing a series of games and experiencing something of the local Dutch life. In the alternate years we host our Dutch friends here similarly in Twyford, culminating in a annual challenge trophy final.

In 2007 we gained FA Charter Standard club status. This is now the desired standard for all clubs to attain to ensure that not only are the children getting the best possible coaching, equipment and facilities; but also that we have the correct procedures in place for child development and welfare, first aid and CRB checks for all our volunteers who run the club and the various teams. As part of this programme every Comets team has at least one qualified FA level 1 coach assigned to it, passing on the knowledge, skills and etiquette of the game to ensure that our youth play the game in the right way and in the right spirit.

We have gained an excellent reputation and are highly regarded by many local clubs, leagues and organisations that we have come to know well over the last 40-50 years. As the club goes forward in the future we have many plans to improve and provide the best possible facility for the growing demands of youth football in Twyford.
