50th Year Competition

We all know how great the children are at playing football, but now we want to see how good their creative art skills are?

As part of the 50th Anniversary we have put together a competition to design your own football badge

Simply download the template form you want to use and print this off (found on our facebook page)

• Be as creative as you like to design your own football badge

• Once completed scan or take a photo of the completed form not forgetting to add child’s name, age and parent/guardians email address

• Finally email this across to me at kurt_charge@hotmail.com

There is plenty of time to enter and closing date for the competition will be Sunday the 10th of April 2022.

We will be looking to announce the winner at some point during the Presentation evening on the 7th of May There will be a prize for the Winner of the Competition along with 2 runners up prizes Let’s get pen to paper and see how many different designs we can get !If anyone has any questions, please feel free to let me know

FA Guidance on resumption of Grass roots for the 2020/21 season

From September – Grassroots leagues, men’s National League System, Women’s Football Pyramid tiers 3 to 6, and FA Competitions can commence.

Clubs, players, coaches, match officials, league officials, volunteers, parents/carers, spectators and football facility providers should read our full guidelines, which are accessible below, in addition to the latest Government guidance on COVID-19.

Twyford Comets has appointed Ben Gilbert as officer to look into COVID19 compliance and safety. Any concerns please get in touch with the club.

Confirmed schedule for 35th Dutch Exchange with RKUVC Ulestraten

Twyford Comets FC confirms schedule for their 36th Dutch Exchange with RKUVC Ulestraten

Twyford, Berkshire: Twyford Comets FC are pleased to announce that they have confirmed the schedule for the upcoming RKUVC Ulestraten tour. (13-18 October 2017)

The annual Dutch exchange was established in 1981 when a local air traffic controller had a conversation with a Dutch air traffic controller and established that they both ran football clubs. They then arranged an alternating annual tour between the two clubs for their U13 teams, which has continued ever since.
Twyford Comets FC are hosting this year and have planned a visit to London, a tour of Wembley Football ground, a match at Wycombe and the Windsor Cup Final at Binfield FC.

About Twyford Comets FC: Twyford Comets FC is an FA Chartered Standard Football Club serving the community of Twyford and its surrounds. Founded in 1972, it now has a player membership of 250 children between the ages of 4 and 18 and also has a Men’s team. Ulestraten is a small village near the city if Maastricht in the Netherlands.

Piggott 3G Footwear Policy

The Piggott 3G pitch is an artificial surface, as such, we need to look after the grounds.

Below is advice for 3G footwear:
3G Permitted footwear:
•Boots with moulded studs – see first example photo below.
•Astro trainers with rubber pimpled soles.

Not allowed on 3G
•No Trainers
•No Boots with screw in studs
•No Blades see 2nd pic below
•No Dirty shoes.

These will not be allowed on to the surface, so if you play on moulded studs on a Saturday, boots will need cleaning before training!

Another note on blades – as a club we do not recommend these boots for the Saturday “on real turf” football either, due to some injuries observed by some of our members. Something to keep in mind when it comes to renewing them.

Also, we have in the last season had many children wearing a hybrid boots with both moulded studs and then blades on the heel. Ideally avoid these too for 3G use.”

Zero tolerance on Player Poaching

The issue of Player Poaching, which is the practice of team mangers approaching young players from other teams and their parents directly and trying to persuade them to switch teams, is becoming increasingly widespread. More and more teams are having to fold due to their players being poached to join supposedly better teams with the promise of more facilities and better chances of winning trophies.

Twyford Comets have decided to take a stand against this and have issued a policy statement which has been adopted by the club and is now part of the club’s operating guidelines.

The Captains Role

Captain taking responsibility

As a captain, you have no special status or privileges under the Laws of the Game, but you do have a degree of responsibility for the behaviour of your team.
To promote Respect, the referee will work with you, as the team captain, to manage the players and the game effectively.
Even if you are some way away from an incident when the referee feels he/she needs you involved in a discussion with a player, the referee will call you over. This will ensure that, as the team captain, you remain the point of contact for the referee.

How Captains can help to instil Respect:

  • Ensure you wear a Respect captain’s armband – this will be provided by your manager
  • Together with your opposition captain, make yourself known to the referee before the game. He/she will ask if you are clear about your responsibilities
  • Ensure all your players understand what they can/cannot do in relation to the referee and what is meant by ‘unwanted behaviour’. No-one’s trying to curb enthusiasm – just instil more discipline. This can only benefit your match – and football as a whole
  • Ensure your vice-captain (appoint one if you haven’t got one) is aware of these rules, in case you are unavailable for a game, or have to leave the field

Dutch Exchange

Some years ago Twyford Comets ventured into International competition.  A chance conversation between two air traffic controllers at Heathrow and Maastricht in Belgium led to the start of an exchange arrangement between Twyford Comets and a Dutch football club, R.K.U.V.C. from Ullestraten a village in Holland near the Belgium border and close to Maastricht. Boys at the under 12/13 age group take part in this exchange which started with the visit of a Dutch team to Twyford in 1981.  The following year the same Twyford Comets team made the return trip to Holland and this arrangement has continued to the present day.

During the exchanges the boys go to local sights and stay with host families to learn a little of the British way of life. On the return trip to Holland the Comets children stay with their host families and get to understand a little more about the Dutch culture, language and way of life.

Whilst in the UK, the visiting team are shown around local sites of general or historic interest, there have been visits to Windsor Castle, Thorpe Park, Chelsea and Wembley Stadium tours plus swimming, bowling and watching football games at Reading FC and Rugby games at London Irish. The adults who accompany the touring party are entertained in the evenings with various events such as snooker, race evenings and parties. The visiting team also play several games of football against teams from the local area and other Comets teams. The highlight of the visit is a cup match played between the two U12/13 teams played at Henley Town FC under floodlights followed by the presentation evening. A similar itinerary is put together in Holland when the Comets go over to visit.

The club has a Dutch Committee which organises the whole schedule of both home and away visits but the touring team is expected to raise the necessary funds by organising fund raising events during the year. Originally we obtained sponsorship for this cup from The Twyford Motor Company but since they have left the village various companies and individuals have sponsored it.
